Built in 1734 on the place of a former wooden church, the baroque church of St. Bartholomew in the centre of Čadca is the oldest preserved church in upper Kysuce. The church is a national cultural monument.
It is a single-nave building with a sanctuary radial gate and a tower built a bit in front of the church. It is covered with a barrel vault with lunettes, converging into pillar columns.
Chapels were built at the sides of the tower in the second half of the 18th century. The basic construction of the great altar comes from that year and in 1899 the altar was restored. The altarpiece of St. Bartholomew is the work of a master from Tešín and it comes from the second half of the 19th century. The Baroque pulpit with a tribune decorated with relief scenes and plastic ornamentals comes from the period, when the church was built. Sculptures of four Evangelists are placed on the pulpit ciborium, with a sculpture of Christ at the top.
