taborThe peak of Tábor with an altitude of 697 m above sea level is the dominant feature of Kysucké Nové Mesto. Since 2015, a massive, four-story wooden construction has been towering on the hill.

It can be reached on the path from the Kysucké Nové Mesto railway station on the blue-marked hiking trail.

After about an hour of climbing through a spruce forest with a bit limited view, you will reach the top of the Tábor hill. It was named after the settlement of the Hussites established on the hill in the distant past. When visiting the lookout tower, be sure to write a word in the memorial book with a lot of funny comments from fellow hikers.

The observatory tower offers an almost perfect circular view of the surrounding and distant peaks dominated by the Malá Fatra mountain range. According to the contours of the peaks, you can recognize Malý and Veľký Rozsutec, Stoh, Chleb, Malý and Veľký Kriváň, Ľadonhora, Malý and Veľký Vreteň, Kysucká brána formed by Rochovica and Brodnianka hills growing out from the Kysucká Vrchovina (Kysuce Highlands).

If you follow the blue marked trail, you can reach the village of Zákopčie. The entire 16 km long trail is named after the promoter of Kysuce tourism and nature, Viliam Galvánek (1913-1988), a native of Kysucké Nové Mesto.

The lookout point can be reached as well by following the green marked trail from Ochodnica or Nesluša. When planning the route, a tourist map or GPS navigation might help a lot.

Trail rating:

Not a demanding one, approx. 3 km long trail (from the train station), if you have a car, you can park higher up and shorten it by approx. 0.5 km; the trail is suitable for families with children. The lookout tower at the top of the Tábor hill can be a nice bonus to the whole trip. The way back can be on the same trail (or other descent options). The ascent takes about 1 hour.
