rozhladna bobovec zima jk014The observation tower on the Bobovec hill is placed at an altitude of 720 m above sea level on the border of the cadastres of Stará Bystrica and Radôstka, and it is visible directly from the main road.

The way to the observation tower leads along the yellow tourist sign from the Slovak Astronomical Clock in the centre of Stará Bystrica. Starting right at the centre, you need to get to the local football field and the nearby footbridge over the Bystrica river. Crossing this bridge will take you to the Bystrica Cycling Route which also serves as a cross-country skiing trail in the winter. If the track is groomed for Nordic skiers, be careful not to step on the groomed trail. Turning right after a few tens of meters you will get on the yellow marked path that will lead you directly to the lookout point on Bobovec hill.

After approximately 45 minutes of climbing up the path through the spruce forest with limited views, you will reach the top of Bobovec.
When we were walking up, the weather was incredible. Fluffs of snow and piercing sunshine gave us the ultimate feeling of freedom and relaxation. What more could you wish?

The 16-meter-high lookout tower itself offers views of Velká Rača, Malá Fatra - you will recognize Malý and Veľký Rozsutec, Stoh, Chleb, Malý and Veľký Kriváň by the contours of the peaks. In the opposite direction, you will not miss the picture of Lysá Hora in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains and a beautiful view of a large part of the Bystrica valley.

From the lookout point, you can continue along the ridge of Nocľahy – you can take the eastern road (red signed) to Nová Bystrica, or take a circuit back along the yellow signed path and you will reach the Slezákovci chapel at the cycling route.
