If you are an experienced Nordic skier, you must know the Beskydy - Javorník cross-country skiing route and its tails. The route connects Čadca with Makov in the length of more than 50 km.
Cross-country skiing is gaining its popularity, and even beginners and less experienced skiers are looking for various opportunities to ride their new Nordic skis and improve their technique.
The Melocík - Kasárne trail is one of the most popular parts of the entire route. In the first third of the approximately 12 km long route, there is the settlement of Greguše in Makov giving beautiful views of the surrounding area if the visibility is good enough.
The settlement is associated with an interesting part of history (read more here) and it can be a pleasant destination for the opening of your Nordic skiing records. The starting point is the Melocík restaurant located on the main road between Bytča and Makov. Even if you have no car, you can easily get to the place by bus, which is a great advantage. If you want to get here by car, you can park in the large parking lot in front of the restaurant, or a few tens of meters below it (in the direction from Makov on the right).
In the first case, you will be guided by signs located on a large information board. Since you are at the crossroads of routes, you can choose either the route to Semeteš or Makov - Kasárne. If you want to get to the settlement of Greguše, follow the orange signs with the inscription Sedlo pod Hričovec (Bukovina, Bumbalka), or the red tourist sign in the same direction. When you cross the road, you will see a piece of art entitled The Eye (author: Marián Kováčik) and you can continue a few dozen meters on the path. The route turns right (you will see a red arrow), you will walk through the forest and reach the maintained trail. The real Nordic skiing experience can start.
If you park in the parking lot, you will see a groomed route immediately.
The route winds through open meadows with stunning views and a gentle climb up to Čemerka, where it crosses the top station of the SKI Makov ski lift. You will continue straight through a light terrain until you reach a sharp descent, where less experienced cross-country skiers are recommended to take off their skis and walk a few meters. Overcoming this part you will head towards a nice descent (a bit treacherous in its final phase) and a pleasant straight way to the village of Greguše. You will reach a large information board and a bench to have a short rest and refresh a bit (from our own supplies). Afterwards, you can either go back on the same route or continue to the location of Kasárne.

Rating of the cross-country skiing trail Melocík – Greguše
The trail is a part of the Beskydy – Javornk Nordic skiing route. Easy terrain, moderate ascents and descents (with the exception of a short section) - suitable for beginners to practice downhills. The 4 km long (+4 return) trail offers great views of Malá Fatra and the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy provided that the visibility is good. The altitude varies from about 600 to 950 m. If there is enough snow, the trail is maintained by a snow groomer.
