Kastiel_RadolaThe Manor House in Radoľa is located near Kysucké Nové Mesto. This village is considered one of the oldest villages in our territory. The first written mention comes from the 13th century when papal legates collected church tithes on the territory of present-day Slovakia.

The area is exceptional because it is home to one of the oldest villages in Kysuce, and because the adjacent manor house is one of the oldest cultural monuments in the region. Based on art-historical research, the creation of the oldest part of the mansion is acknowledged to be dating back to the third quarter of the 16th century.

The mansion had the form of a square two-story building with one residential space on each floor. This form was preserved until the second half of the 17th century when the building was rebuilt. Barns, men's stables, ponds, an orchard, a stone brewery, hop houses, a mill and a sawmill were added to the complex later. It belonged to the Budatin Estate managed by the Suňog family until 1798. In that year, the family died out in masculine line and the ownership was transferred to the Csáky family. However, they did not live in the manor as they used the castle and manors in Budatín. The last owner of the Budatín manor after the World War I sold the land and buildings to the residents of Radoľa. The Manor House was used for residential purposes until 1970´s when it was transferred to the administration of the Kysuce Museum and its reconstruction was realized.

A permanent exhibition has been open since 1983 and it was partially reinstalled in 2002 - the exhibition The Oldest History of Kysuce from the Early Paleolithic to the Middle Ages. It documents the first traces of human activity and the oldest settlement in the territory of Kysuce. A number of interesting exhibits can be found there - a molar tooth of a mammoth, various fragments of work tools, ceramics and excavations from the settlement of the people of the Púchov culture. A replica of a baby mammoth is a surprise for visitors.

The second exhibition entitled Burgher Living in Kysuce aims at presenting the history of Kysucké Nové Mesto and Čadca. There is a living room, a bedroom, and a dining room from the end of the 19th century. A large part of the furniture comes from the workshop of the master Mládenek from Čadca.

Another exhibition named the Legacy of the Cyril Methodist tradition captures the turning points in the history of our nation and the development of Christianity in our territory. The last permanent exhibition called the World of the Alchemist presents the way of life and work of an alchemist in his laboratory.

Not far from the Manor House, there is the archaeological site of Koscelisko where archaeological research found the oldest sacral building in Kysuce and at the same time a unique bone statue of Saint Mary (a copy of which can be seen in the Manor House) was discovered there. During the construction of the Manor House, stones from the church on Koscelisko in Radoľa (its ruins could still be seen in the middle of the 20th century) were used.
