The Parish Church of St. John the Baptist is the dominant feature of Skalité. It is already the third church in the village and the only one still standing today. The church was built in the late Baroque style.
The work on the building began in 1787 with the financial help of the patron of the parish, Count Mikuláš Eszterházi and his son Anton. According to a number of sources, the Church was completed in 1794 under the administration of the pastor Andrej Gombár. However, in July 1999, during the restoration of the tower, an ancient document was found documenting its completion a year earlier in 1793. The document is archived at the Parish Office in Skalité. Four bells were procured for the church - two larger ones: the first one weighed 4 cents with the inscription Vox clamantis in deserto (Voice calling in the desert) and was dedicated to St. John the Baptist; the second had 2 cents with the inscription Vox dilecti mei pulsantis (Voice of my beloved) and was dedicated to St. Joseph, the bridegroom of the Virgin Mary, the remaining two were transferred from the tower of the original Church to the new one.
The Church was ceremoniously consecrated by Bishop František Fuchs on August 15, 1801, which was eight years after its completion. The Church remained without major changes for more than a century, its appearance changed significantly before and during the World War I, when new stained-glass windows - a gift from natives who had emigrated to USA - were installed. The main altar was assembled in 1922 and with the exception of a few minor modifications, it has been preserved up to these days.
