goralske slavnosti 1Goral Festival in Skalité is a very special event organized at the occasion of Midsummer night, the symbol of which was a bonfire lit in the early evening of St. John the Baptist, who has been the patron saint of the parish and the church since its foundation. This ancient custom became the inspiration of the festival of Goral culture. The signs of the Goral culture in Kysuce reflect Slovak-Polish relations and the very closeness of these two countries.

The tradition of the Goral Folklore Festival in Skalité was established in 1992. Goral Festival is an international festival where traditional folk customs are presented. A wooden amphitheatre was built in the centre of the village for the purpose of organizing the annual Goral Festival. During the event history, more than 170 ensembles and soloists, including almost 4,000 artists, presented themselves on the stage in approximately 300 performances. At the festivities, folklorists of top professional ensembles from Slovakia and abroad perform together with local ensembles.
