kostol zakopcie 002The church built in the baroque-classical style from 1971 is a dominant feature of the village. The painting of St. John the Baptist placed above the main altar dominates the Church which is consecrated to St. John the Baptist.

The church was built upon the request of Prince Anton Esterházy and consecrated in 1801. This one-nave church is of rectangular layout, it has a prismatic tower in the front, and the nave is finished with a semi-circular presbytery cap. The slender tower of the church is finished with a baroque bulbous roof with a lantern. The interior of the church bears the features of the style typical for the turn of 19th and 20th centuries.

The interior of the church hides a sculpture - pieta from the second half of the 18th century. A stone cross and two statues of St. Cyril and Methodius have found their place in front of the Church. The Church located in the local part of Majer is administered by the parish of Zákopčie, the Deanery of Čadca and the Diocese of Žilina. A well-known poet of Catholic modernism Ján Haranta was one of the parish priests working in the village. Just above the local parish on the Osobité hill, a path with the Station of the Cross can be found. It was built and consecrated in 2005 on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. Since then, it has been in the hearts of those who climb up to the stone of resurrection with their prayers.
