The first written mention of Vysoká dates back to 1615 when it was mentioned under its former name “Lupežov” in a witness statement regarding banditry. The colonisation of the area led to the creation of hill settlements and hamlets.
The local settlements were created by cutting trees or bushes near the farmsteads and subsequent grubbing (digging the roots out of the ground) and burning (burning the remains of trees and bushes) of the clean-cut areas. The creation of agricultural land near the farmsteads and its use led to a more settled way of life. The new settlements created in this way are considered different from those created by Wallachian colonization on the ground of Wallachian law where the economic and administrative life followed different principles. Almost the entire cadastral territory of the Municipality is covered by small settlements and solitary hamlets.
Due to their gradual depopulation in recent years, the local settlements and solitary hamlets have become a sought-after tourist destination and are becoming a recreational phenomenon. The settlements in Vysoká nad Kysucou maintain their original character, which in combination with the enchanting nature creates a perfect illusion, as if a person had gone back in time and found himself four hundred years ago in Lupežov.
