The unique natural creation of stone spheres can be found Čadca - Milošová, near the border with the Czech Municipality of Mosty u Jablunkova. In the 80s of the 20th century, regular round spheres with a diameter of 10 to 260 cm slipped out of the rock face after it had been blasted (there was a quarry where stone was mined for the treatment of mountain streams).
This is how a rare natural phenomenon of the world significance was discovered. In 2003, the site was declared a natural monument. Until now, no one has given a clear explanation of the origin of the stone spheres. Geologists only agree that they were formed at the same time as the surrounding sandstone rocks. They were probably formed in the prehistoric sea by the process of gradual packing of the core by the movements of the water on the seabed.
In the forest - on the right side - at the level of the largest ball, there are two more stone balls in the rock massif. The path to them leads beyond the shelter steeply up the hill (sturdy shoes required).
In front of the quarry itself, there is a small parking It is also possible to park in the large area of the final bus stop.
In 2019, a shelter with a stage and some basic furniture (benches, trash cans) were built in the location, all of this sensitively placed into the environment. The project was designed by the author IVAN JARINA studio. Geopark Megoňky won the prestigious award of the Society for Garden and Landscape Design – 1st place as the Detail of the year 2019 for garden and landscape design.
From Megoňky,it is possible to continue on foot or by bicycle to the historical fortification, a national cultural monument, Šance - Valy in Mosty u Jablunkova (CZ). The fortification is about 2.5 km away. It is not possible to drive a car through the border crossing at Megoňky (necessary to go round through the border crossing Čadca - Milošová - Šance/Mosty u Jablunkova/CZ).
