Trojak or Trojok in the local dialect of Skalité is one of the border hills forming a circle where the Municipality of Skalité has been existing for several centuries. It is significant due to both, its geographical location and due to its cardinal impact on the settlement of the whole region.
The settlement was given its name by our ancestors who decided to settle here and establish a village. They noticed that the mountain range forks towards three sides just on the place. The name Trojak (three sides) has been preserved in the dialect until now, and as well in the Polish language and on Polish tourist maps. Unfortunately, Slovak maps identify the place by an ordinary designation of a hill – Kykuľa.
At the top of Trojak, there has been a triple point of the borders of the three countries - Slovakia, Silesia, and Galicia since time immemorial. Currently, this point is a part of the border between Slovakia and Poland. There is a border stone with the carved date 1914 right on Trojak. The place gives a stunning view of the wide area of immense natural beauties. The circular view shows the picturesque Beskydy hills and the majestic peaks of the High Tatras, weather permitting.
