Makov - KasárneThe settlement is now used only for recreational purposes. Thanks to its altitude, it provides its visitors with summer and winter sport activities, relaxation in nature and unforgettable experiences.

It is situated right next to the Czech-Slovak border below the highest peak of the Javorník Mountains – Veľký Javorník (1071 m above sea level). Though the settlement has always been a territorial part of Slovakia, in the era of the common Czechoslovak Republic, it could be accessed only from the Moravian side from Veľké Karlovice. Of course, the owners of the cottages and the ski resort were mostly Czech citizens. After the division of Czechoslovakia and the establishment of borders, it resulted in a paradoxical situation when the Slovak settlement was not accessible the territory of Slovakia. It was necessary to complete the construction of a 7 km long road from the settlement of Kopanice. Of course, it took some time.

The period was very complicated for the cottagers as well as for the owners of buffets and restaurants. Transporting of goods to the settlement was complicated due to customs restrictions. Furthermore, the 3.5 km distant village of Veľké Karlovice had to be accessed by a 40-50 km long bypass. Finally, the loss of time caused by customs procedures was even significantly longer.

Despite this, the resort and the settlement did not disappear, and after the completion of the 7 km long road section from Makov Kopanice, further development of this resort could start. Nowadays, this area offers year-round hiking and skiing opportunities, and it has even acquired the status of a climatic spa (to treat diseases of the respiratory system) - the parameters are comparable to the High Tatras. Among other things, this location is exceptional as a place with unique views of the Beskydy Mountains, the Vsetín Mountains, the Strážovské Hills, Velká Fatra and the Low Tatras.

The resort is also popular thanks to the wide ski slopes for safe skiing. The resort disposes of 4 ski lifts, 2 km of snow-covered trails and a total of 1200 m long illuminated ski slope. Parking is free. There is a children's SKIFUN park, SNOWPARK, snow tubing, ski and snowboard rental and ski service. Just below the lift station there is an apartment house with a restaurant and a wellness centre. The tourist-recreational cross-country skiing track runs along the ridge of Javorníky, over the hill Čerenka 948 m above sea level. The skiers can be taken on the ridge of the Beskydy mountains by a ski lift.
