cierne zagrunie osada1When introducing the next settlement, I decided to combine two settlements into one common destination.

Both of them, Zágrunie (also known as Na Poľane) and Závršie are local parts situated above the neighbouring villages of Čierne and Svrčinovec. These settlements are located within a short distance from the Kysuce cycling route, and each of them has its own places of interest, thus being a fine tip for a bike trip or a short hike with children. The Kysuce cycling route with its length of 131 km stretching from Kotešová to Oravská Lesná is one of the longest marked cycling routes in Slovakia.

I have chosen to try the middle part of the route with a few compelling stops. When coming from Čadca, you should turn right in Podzávoz and follow the panel road leading along the ridge to the local part of Závršie (Svrčinovec village), Liščákovci settlement. A well-known writer, journalist, and teacher Peter Jilemnický worked in this settlement between 1923 and 1926.

Just below the top of the hill, you will find is the municipal primary school where he taught. Later, when municipal schools in remote settlements were gradually abolished, the school was rebuilt into the Chapel of our Mother of Seven Sorrows, which serves its purpose to this day.

Wooden posts of the Way of the Cross are placed along the forest path from the village of Svrčinovec to the Chapel at Závršie. Čierne – Zágrunie. From Liščákovci settlement you will connect to the panel surfaced cycling route stretching along the ridge.

After you have crossed the asphalt road and made a short climb up the hill, you will discover the open view over the village of Čierne, the adjacent bridges and overpasses of the highway leading to Poland. The character of the scenery is completed by a reconstructed chapel of St. Joseph (formerly a fire station) in the settlement of Zágrunie.

A little further on, you will come across a pub in a stylish wooden house. Zágrunie and Závršie can also be reached from the Čadečka district of Čadca.
