martakovci osadaThe mountain settlement of Petránky is located on the route of the Javorníky trail which leads along the Javorník ridge from Makov to Čadca, above the village of Zákopčie. We can get there through the settlements of Trnkovci and Marťákovci.

There are buildings typical for this region to be found in the vicinity of these settlements: there is the chapel of the Virgin Mary built by the local inhabitants in cooperation with neighbouring settlements as a centre of religious esteem, there is a brick building of a school, built in the period after the Second World War, when the surrounding fields were densely populated with many school-aged children. After 1980, the school was closed due to insufficient number of children. It is owned privately at the moment.

In addition, there are two sought-after tourist attractions above the settlement of Petránky. A large iron sculpture named "Potvor" (Monster) is a part of the Javorníky Trail well known under its nickname - the Gallery of Nature. The author of "Potvor", the sculptor Ondrej 4. Zimka. created the statue while he was still living and working in Bratislava. Already at that time, he had a deep relationship with the land, the people of Kysuce, their culture and traditions. After all, as it is said that the apple does not fall far from the tree, the son of the famous Slovak painter Ondrej Zimka, Ondrej Zimka Jr or Ondrej the 4th was inspired by the characters of the popular folk culture to create the "Potvor". The characters of folk culture embody both good and terrible qualities as well as the magic power of good and evil wizards.

The Mikovčák lookout towers above the settlement of Petránky on the deforested Marťák hill. As is clear from its name, the lookout tower was designed and built by a reputed architect and sculptor Stanislav Mikovčák, widely known due to the construction of lookouts in Kysuce and other regions of Slovakia.
