osada petrova rakovaThe settlement of Petrová hides a dramatic story that took place at the end of World War II in 1945.

The main protagonists of the story were the residents of Petrová, the Raková parish priest Václav Bauer and his chaplain Michal Šinský who remembers the story as follows:

"On Friday, April 6, 1945, when I returned from caring for a sick person in the upper part of the village, the village commissioner Ľudovít Honíšek, came to me crying. From his painful speech, I understood that the Germans were going to shoot 34 people and two small children on Petrova (hamlet). “They are already lined up, do something to save them”! The deputy commander was on command in Turzovka at the time... The parish dean Bauer and I immediately went upstairs to the rectory to the commander. The dean could speak German. We fell on our knees in front of him and begged him not to shoot the people on Petrová. We had brought some plum brandy. He sinned terribly in German and threatened us all, while we didn't even know what had actually happened.

When the German soldiers were loading the wagons with hay and clover, a young man entered Štefan Kovalíček's house from the back and started shooting at the German commander …That was the reason for shooting all those who were in Petrová that time. The order was: 'Shoot!' Otto, as the deputy commander, accepted the order, saluted, and left for Petrová. I followed him to the upper corridor on my knees and begged him not to do it! When Otto raced back from Petrová on his motorbike, he said: 'I didn't give the order to shoot.' We were both in the parsonage downstairs and we were crying."

This was the life in the highlands in the past. Tourists are recommended to turning from the road from Raková to Korcháň to the village of Petrová and to continue to the village of Kuchriská, where the Chapel of St. Francis stands. From Kuchriská, there is a path to the settlement U Blažíček, where you can find a small church.
