I have a very close relation to the settlement of Kýčera. I spent there almost my entire childhood because my parents had a cottage in Kýčera for 44 years, and we were surrounded by beautiful nature, forests, meadow flowers, the scent of mushrooms and forest fruits. Undoubtedly, it was not only my relationship to nature that was formed this way. I fell in love with the style of highland hamlets and the wooden houses scattered all over the surrounding hills. But what is the most gratifying nowadays? The fact that the descendants of the original residents are returning home, they are repairing the old buildings and even start living in Kýčera permanently. I witnessed many stories that happened here, a few of them worth mentioning: When entering the settlement, you will notice a stone cross with nicely arranged surroundings. The cross was built by the brother of a deceased Františka Vlčková who left him some money to build the cross, which was her last wish.

Bell tower

The bell tower is the dominant feature of the settlement. The parish priest bought the bell here before the First World War. When bells were requisitioned everywhere in 1916, the local settlers hid the bell in a pile of stones. It was dug up only after the war on October 30, 1918. For many years, there was the bell ringer Jozef Vlček and his wife Františka who built the first brick house with a cellar and a stable in the settlement of Kýčera. Their house, still standing, was a complete rarity, because until then only wooden houses with various extensions had been built here. Despite his difficult fate, Mr Vlček was taking care of the regular operation of the bell tower despite being disabled as he lost both legs due to diabetes.
Later, the bell tower was rebuilt, and a man was replaced by the technology operating the bell.

Chronicle

Kýčera is one of the few settlements that can be proud of an unofficial chronicle preserved till these days. It contains an unusual entry saying that on July 19, 1933, one of the locals purposedly put the settlement on fire and thus deprived 27 people of their home. The point is, that his house was the only one covered by an insurance, unlike any other in the settlement. Indeed, this is an unmistakable proof that swindlers have always been here.

Cross at the cemetery

A wooden cross with a statue of the crucified Jesus Christ is erected in the middle of the cemetery. This statue was allegedly brought to the settlement by Mr Čarnecký (60 years old) who carried the 40 kg heavy cross on the way from Čadca to Kýčera.
